Numbers in a Novel
The book A Certain Ambiguity is subtitiled A mathematical Novel. It is a sutiable subtitle as a novel which succedes in telling stories with mathematical overtones and ideas.
One mathematical idea has the following method and result:-
A clue is that 23 x 11 x7 = 1001.

One mathematical idea has the following method and result:-
- Type any 3 digits into a calculator.
- Then type the same 3 digits again.
- This is now a 6 digit number;
- This 6 digit number can now be exactly divided by 13 to give new whole number.
- Divide this new number by 7 to give another new number.
- By dividing this latest number by 7 and as a result it will give the original 3 digit number.
A clue is that 23 x 11 x7 = 1001.
