Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, a coin that exists online and is traded and recorded using blockchain technology, a digital ledger of all past transactions.

Blockchain as it name says is a chain of blocks. What are the blocks? They are blocks of data held as databases in computers. The databases are joined with databases in other computers to share data with each other making the chain a distributed database. The blockchain is used for record-keeping, storing a log of transactions, a ledger and verifing new ones. These action are carried out and recorded without involving a central organisation such a bank or goverment.
